The White House of the United States announced on the 17th (local time) that Elon Musk's official position as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is White House Advisor.
According to the American political media outlet Politico, Joshua Fisher, White House Chief of Staff, stated in a written document submitted to the Washington DC Federal Court on the same day that Musk's title is "Senior Advisor to the President." He also explained that "(Musk) does not have actual or official authority to make government decisions directly."
The written document was submitted in response to a lawsuit filed by Democratic attorneys general from 14 states, including New Mexico. These attorneys general pointed out that President Donald Trump established the unofficial government agency DOGE without congressional approval and granted Musk power without Senate confirmation.
The Department of Government Efficiency is based on an executive order that President Trump enacted immediately after his inauguration on the 20th of last month. Its official name is the "United States Department of Government Efficiency Service," and it is an agency directly under the White House Secretariat.
