Gimcheon City Wins Grand Prize in "Alley Economy"
at the 2024 Korea Regional Economy Awards

Gimcheon City in Gyeongbuk announced on the 18th that it won the grand prize in the "Alley Economy" category at the "2024 Korea Regional Economy Awards."

Gimcheon-si Shines in Revitalizing Neighborhood Economy... Wins Korea Regional Economy Award Various events are being held in Gimcheon City to revitalize the alley economy.

The Korea Regional Economy Awards are given by the Korean Regional Economic Association and the Korea Regional Economic Research Institute, evaluating 226 local governments nationwide based on official statistics and quantitative indicators. The awards are divided into a total of eight categories and announced annually.


In this evaluation, Gimcheon City received high marks for its efforts to revitalize commercial districts, including operating the Hwanggeum Market Hwanggeum Pocha, supporting the Bugok Matgoeul Shopping Festival established as a food festival with a kids' cafe and Dalbit Pocha, and contributing to the digital transformation of traditional markets through increased mobile payments of Onnuri gift certificates.


Choi Soon-go, Acting Mayor of Gimcheon (Deputy Mayor), said, "We are pleased that our efforts to revitalize the alley economy have been recognized despite the difficult economic conditions such as reduced consumption," adding, "We will actively promote alley commercial district support projects to firmly establish the local economic ecosystem."
