Woo Won-sik "Stop insulting and threatening the Constitutional Court... Responsible figures should act thoughtfully"

Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-sik strongly criticized those advocating for the 'dismissal' of President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment trial who held protests even in front of the Acting Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court's residence on the 18th. He also pointed out that political circles and others should stop shaking the Constitutional Court.

On the 18th, Woo stated through social media (SNS), "The independence of the judiciary is being seriously threatened. Violence and threats against judges, false claims and agitation, and fake news have gone far beyond acceptable limits," adding, "The excessive actions escalated from violent intrusion into the Western District Court to now reaching the residence of the Acting Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court."

He said, "If we tolerate the denial of the constitution and the national system, the Republic of Korea will fall into a barbaric state," and added, "The very idea of threatening and pressuring judges through protests in front of their homes to induce the desired outcome is neither right nor possible."

He also expressed concern about actions that damage the reputation of the Constitutional Court and related institutions. He said, "If the intention is to undermine trust in rulings by damaging the reputation of judicial institutions, that is even more wrong," and emphasized, "Shaking the Constitutional Court and insulting and threatening Constitutional Court justices must stop immediately. Confusion after the impeachment trial must be minimized."

He stressed, "Shaking the Constitutional Court and insulting and threatening Constitutional Court justices must stop immediately," and added, "Regardless of the outcome, it is important for the people to accept it and calmly restore their daily lives."

Regarding this, he said, "I hope and request that those in responsible positions in our society take the lead in protecting and healing the community called the Republic of Korea through prudent and thoughtful words and actions."
