Na Criticizes Constitutional Court as "Accomplice in Paralyzing State Affairs"
On the 17th, Na Kyung-won, a member of the People Power Party, sharply criticized Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who had referred to the anti-impeachment rally in Gwangju as "no different from the devil," saying, "Isn't it the Lee Jae-myung Democratic Party, which deceives the people, paralyzes state affairs through parliamentary dictatorship and budget dictatorship, and schemes to seize power through fraudulent impeachment and incitement of rebellion, that is becoming a devilish group as Lee Jae-myung himself said?"
At a press conference held at the National Assembly Communication Office that day, Rep. Na said, "He is a four-time ex-convict who abuses the National Assembly and the system to shield his personal crimes, disguises right-wing shifts, and lies as if it were a daily routine."
Regarding Lee and the Democratic Party, Rep. Na stated, "Since President Yoon's election, they have conducted 178 presidential resignation movements, rejected the presidential election, attempted 29 fraudulent impeachments, and carried out 23 legislative and budgetary dictatorships. They have paralyzed state affairs and neglected people's livelihoods solely for the political goal of 'shielding Lee Jae-myung's personal crimes' and 'making Lee Jae-myung president.'"
Specifically addressing the "devil" remark, she said, "It is the most anti-democratic slander, unworthy even of mentioning democracy. Do devils see devils? Is it democracy that the Democratic Party calls the people who seek to protect liberal democracy and the rule of law devils?" She launched an offensive, saying, "Democracy is not the exclusive property of Lee Jae-myung's Democratic Party."
On the 17th, in front of the Constitutional Court in Jongno-gu, Seoul, ruling party lawmakers including Kim Ki-hyun, Na Kyung-won, and Yoon Sang-hyun held a press conference before meeting with the Secretary General of the Constitutional Court to urge the minimum guarantee of President Yoon Seok-yeol's right to defense and to condemn unfairness. 2025.02.17 Photo by Yoon Dong-ju
Regarding the Constitutional Court, which is currently conducting the impeachment trial of President Yoon, she criticized it as a "co-conspirator in paralyzing state affairs" and a "politically biased court," citing delays in impeachment trials of cabinet members and changes in the order of hearings.
Rep. Na argued, "The court has abandoned its fundamental duty to uphold the constitution, damaging constitutional order and judicial justice through political bias and hasty judgments. It is even criticized as an impeachment factory that pre-decides the outcome and mass-produces rulings. How did the Constitutional Court, the last bastion of the constitution, come to this state?"
After the press conference, when reporters asked if her criticism of the Constitutional Court was turning into a personal attack against Moon Hyung-bae, acting president of the Constitutional Court, Rep. Na responded, "We must be careful ourselves in that regard. Personal attacks against Acting President Moon should not be made. However, criticism of case management and trial proceedings is justified."
When a reporter said, "The strict crackdown on the leftist cartel was proposed by President Yoon during the December 3 emergency martial law. The party's agreement to this seems to imply agreement with martial law," she replied, "You know that we are not endorsing martial law now," adding, "If the post-martial law process does not proceed according to the constitution, we cannot accept it. The impeachment procedure must also be legal and conform to the rule of law."
Regarding former party leader Han Dong-hoon's suggestion on social media of an early presidential candidacy, she said, "Now is not Han's time," and added, "He should take more time for self-reflection."
On her name being included in the joint proposal for the impeachment of Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae, led by People Power Party lawmaker Kang Seung-gyu, she emphasized, "We would not have proposed the impeachment if it were not serious. Ultimately, I think it carries political significance." Regarding discussions about President Yoon's resignation, she dismissed them, saying, "Now is not the time to discuss such things."
