Korea Transportation Safety Authority Secures 11.5 Billion KRW from 40 Railway Safety Inspections Over 10 Years

The Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced on the 16th that since starting the 'Design Phase Railway Transportation Facility Safety Diagnosis' in 2015, it has secured a total of 40 projects worth 11.5 billion KRW over the past 10 years.

The design phase railway safety diagnosis is a procedure conducted when installing railways with a total length of 1 km or more, including one station, to check for potential risk factors from the user's perspective regarding train operation, use of railway facilities, and connection with other transportation modes.

The Authority performed design safety diagnoses for the metropolitan area GTX (Great Train Express), Sinlim Line, Gwangju Line 2, and Daegu Industrial Line. The annual contract amount reached a record high of 2.44 billion KRW last year.

For deep underground sections (below 40 meters from the surface) of each line, the Authority established passenger evacuation plans in case of fire. Improvement works were carried out, including the installation of escalator reverse operation prevention devices and additional installation of 'live wire indicators' to prevent electric shock accidents among workers.

Additionally, to facilitate the mobility of transportation-vulnerable groups, the Authority improved guidance signage within stations and reduced congestion levels.
