Adoption of Proposal Urging Designation of Seosan Coastal Area as a National Industrial Complex

The 128th regular meeting of the Chungnam City and County Council Chairpersons' Association (Chairperson Kim Gyeongje) was held on the 14th in the medium conference room at Seosan City Hall.
This regular meeting, hosted by Seosan City Council, was attended by Seosan City Council Chairperson Cho Dongsik, Seosan city council members, chairpersons from 12 city and county councils, the Mayor of Seosan, the Director of the Local Legislative Training Center, and about 40 others.
Before the meeting, Seosan City Council member Kim Maengho received the Chungnam Legislative Service Award from the Chungcheongnam-do City and County Council Chairpersons' Association, in recognition of his exemplary legislative activities and contributions to the development of local governance and autonomy for residents.
During this regular meeting, two agenda items were reviewed and approved: the approval of the 2024 fiscal year settlement for the Chungnam City and County Council Chairpersons' Association, and the adoption of a statement urging the designation of the Seosan coastal area as a national industrial complex.

There was also a discussion session aimed at strengthening exchange and cooperation among local councils in Chungcheongnam-do.
The proposal urging the designation of the Seosan coastal area as a national industrial complex, initiated by Chairperson Cho Dongsik, pointed out the issue that, despite Seosan Daesan Industrial Complex being the third largest petrochemical complex in Korea, it is classified as a general industrial complex and thus excluded from various forms of national support. The proposal called for improvements to this situation.
It also included a call to designate the Seosan coastal area as a new national industrial complex, aiming to develop it as a specialized base for advanced petrochemical materials industries, thereby providing an opportunity for economic growth and carbon neutrality on a national scale.
In his welcoming remarks, Chairperson Cho Dongsik stated, "Even if our legislative philosophies and values differ, the voices expressing opinions may vary, but our common goal is the happiness of the residents." He added, "Although our regions are different, if the Chungnam City and County Council Chairpersons' Association shares major issues between cities and counties with one heart and mind, and communicates and cooperates, we will be able to exert even greater strength than before."
