Scheduled for Completion in May 2026
Total Project Cost of 5.9 Billion KRW Invested
Busan City (Mayor Park Hyung-jun) will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 3 p.m. on the 14th in Dongdaesin-dong for the ‘Dongdaesin-dong Silver Complex Cultural Center Construction Project,’ which will serve as a hub for the walking living area in Seo-gu.
About 100 people, including officials from Busan City and Seo-gu, city and district council members, and residents, are expected to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for this project, which is being promoted as part of the 15-minute city policy contest.
The Dongdaesin-dong Silver Complex Cultural Center in Seo-gu is an integrated hub facility for elderly welfare services in the 15-minute city, aimed at expanding the insufficient cultural and educational facilities in the western Busan area, where the elderly population ratio is high compared to the total population, and supporting complex and diverse services.
Seo-gu is experiencing a gradually increasing elderly population ratio, leading to a growing demand for leisure and welfare services for senior citizens. Additionally, as the need for spaces that promote harmony among residents of various classes and generations and community utilization within the living area has emerged, facilities capable of accommodating these needs were required. However, most existing facilities are old and insufficient in number, so Seo-gu applied for the 15-minute city policy contest project to resolve this issue and was finally selected.
The project aims for completion in May 2026, with a total budget of 5.9 billion KRW. The total floor area will be approximately 999.22㎡, housing various facilities including a comprehensive senior support center, ▲program rooms ▲shared community rooms ▲silver sports activity rooms ▲multipurpose rooms, and more.
The project site is located in the heart of the original downtown area with good accessibility and dense residential areas, making it a convenient and easy-to-use location within walking distance for elderly residents living nearby.
When applying for the contest project, Seo-gu conducted a demand survey centered on local seniors and related organizations to concretize the spatial plan. Along with programs for intergenerational harmony, community spaces and health management areas will be created to provide a ‘one-stop service’ that integrates the previously individualized elderly welfare service delivery systems into a unified service for seniors and residents.
Im Kyung-mo, Director of the Urban Innovation and Balanced Development Office of Busan City, said, “With the entry into a super-aged society, we will do our best to promote balanced regional development and enhance elderly welfare by establishing infrastructure for rapid integrated welfare service delivery within the western Busan walking living area and creating community utilization spaces.”
