"GM Says No Withdrawal from Korean Market, Increasing New Models and Large-Scale Investments"

Strengthening the Lineup with a Multi-Brand Strategy
Preparing to Introduce Autonomous Driving Technology

GM plans to secure a diverse lineup through a multi-brand strategy to recover sluggish domestic sales.

On the 14th, GM Korea announced plans to strengthen its lineup by introducing new models to the domestic market this year and to expand autonomous driving technology and automotive connectivity services.

GM has introduced vehicles that are hard to come by in the domestic market, starting with a 6.2ℓ large-displacement sports coupe, followed by the first compact SUV, authentic pickup trucks, and full-size SUVs in Korea. Representative models include the Chevrolet Colorado, Korea's first authentic American pickup truck, the full-size pickup truck GMC Sierra, and full-size SUV models such as the Chevrolet Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade.

GM employs a multi-brand strategy that leverages the advantage of owning multiple subsidiary brands to launch various product lines tailored to customer preferences. GM plans to further strengthen this strategy this year. Through its premium brand Cadillac, GM will focus on launching various new models and building its lineup. The new models under consideration include new electric vehicles and RVs, which are GM’s strengths.

Along with new vehicle launches, GM is also promoting the adoption of new technologies. Last year, GM introduced the global automotive connectivity service 'OnStar' to Korea. OnStar, which has 5.6 million global paid subscribers, offers new experiences such as remote vehicle control via a smartphone application, vehicle status information, and vehicle diagnostic functions.

GM applied the OnStar service to the Chevrolet All-New Colorado and Cadillac Lyriq, adding a feature that allows users to adjust the interior temperature via smartphone before boarding.

GM is also preparing to introduce autonomous driving technology. In November, GM revealed plans to introduce the autonomous driving technology 'Super Cruise' in Korea at the 'Cadillac EV Day' event.

Super Cruise, an autonomous driving technology that allows hands-free driving on certain sections, is highly rated at Level 3 autonomous driving performance due to its excellent capabilities. Super Cruise was first applied to the Cadillac XT6 model in the U.S. in 2018 and is known for its high autonomous driving completeness, having accumulated data by driving an average of 16 million kilometers per month.

GM is also strengthening its service network, which forms the foundation of domestic sales. Last year, GM completed the Seoul Service Center and began full-scale operations. It is the largest directly operated service center in Seoul, with a total floor area of 26,252㎡ across three basement levels and eight above-ground floors, equipped with facilities and personnel capable of precisely diagnosing and repairing about 100 vehicles per day.

In addition to the Seoul Service Center, GM plans to renovate the Dong Seoul Service Center located in Seongsu-dong and the Wonju Service Center into large-scale complex service centers to further enhance service satisfaction.
