People Power Party "Democratic Party Must Withdraw 35 Trillion Won Supplementary Budget Proposal"

Wasteful Projects Without Proven Economic Effects

On the 13th, the People Power Party called for the withdrawal of the Democratic Party of Korea's proposal to draft an additional supplementary budget (supplementary budget) of 35 trillion won, which includes securing the budget for a 250,000 won payment to all citizens and local currency.

On the same day, the People Power Party issued a statement in the name of Kim Sang-hoon, chairman of the Policy Committee, saying, "Although drafting a supplementary budget is the government's inherent authority, it is very inappropriate and arrogant for the major opposition party to draft its own supplementary budget as if pressuring the government," and urged, "The Democratic Party should withdraw its own supplementary budget draft."

He added, "Many economic experts evaluate the total 15.1 trillion won, including 13.1 trillion won for the 250,000 won payment to all citizens and 2 trillion won for issuing local currency, as a wasteful budget that does not help in restoring people’s livelihoods and economic growth."

He further stated, "We clearly declare once again that public funds cannot be invested in wasteful projects whose economic effects have not been proven," and said, "The Democratic Party should abandon the inclusion of the local currency budget."

In addition, regarding support for advanced industries, it was emphasized that easing excessive regulations such as the uniform application of the 52-hour workweek system should come before financial support, stating, "The urgent passage of the Semiconductor Special Act, which recognizes exceptions to the 52-hour workweek system, is necessary."

He continued, "Not only the decision on drafting the supplementary budget but also issues related to the National Assembly pension and constitutional amendment special committees, and the agreed passage of the Semiconductor Special Act, should be discussed in depth by the ruling and opposition parties and the government at the State Affairs Council."
