Kang Suhun, Gwangju City Council Member: "Reducing Response Time... Protecting Citizens' Lives and Property"

‘Ordinance on Emergency Vehicle Priority Signals’ Passes City Council

Kang Suhun, Gwangju City Council Member: "Reducing Response Time... Protecting Citizens' Lives and Property" Suhun Kang, Gwangju City Council Member.

The "Gwangju City Emergency Vehicle Priority Signal System Establishment and Operation Ordinance," proposed by Council Member Kang Suhun (Democratic Party of Korea, Seo-gu 1), passed the city council's plenary session on the 12th.

This ordinance aims to secure the golden time in emergency situations to protect the lives and property of citizens, and includes the introduction of a priority signal system to enable emergency vehicles to move quickly. In particular, the Mayor of Gwangju is now provided with a legal basis to establish and operate the emergency vehicle priority signal system, and is required to establish an annual operation plan for the continuous improvement of the system.

Kang explained the purpose of the ordinance, stating, "Currently, emergency vehicles are often delayed at intersections and due to signal systems, which greatly increases the risk of decreased survival rates for emergency patients and expanded fire damage. Introducing a priority signal system is more necessary now than ever to address this issue."

Kang also added, "Since every second counts in emergencies, it is essential to improve the traffic system to enable rapid dispatch. Through this ordinance, we expect that the speed of accident response will increase, and the lives and property of citizens will be protected more effectively."
