Chungnam Holds First Science and Technology Committee Meeting of the Year... Discusses Future Strategic Industries

Chungnam Province announced that on the morning of the 12th, it held the '2025 1st Chungcheongnam-do Science and Technology Committee' in the provincial government’s small conference room, attended by Vice Governor Jeon Hyeongsik and members of the Science and Technology Committee.

At the first Science and Technology Committee meeting of this year, the 7th Science and Technology Committee members were appointed to accelerate the development of future strategic industries, in line with Governor Kim Taeheum’s 8th-term provincial administration goal of “a vigorously growing economy.” The committee also discussed this year’s implementation plans related to science and technology.

The 7th Science and Technology Committee consists of 18 members, including provincial government officials, representatives from science and technology research institutes, academic experts, and provincial council members. The committee is responsible for establishing and coordinating major policies for the promotion of science and technology, planning R&D projects, and attracting and fostering research institutions.

During the meeting, the achievements of last year’s 6th Local Science and Technology Promotion Plan were shared, followed by a review of this year’s implementation plan. Various opinions were gathered to establish the direction for the province’s science and technology policies.

The province plans to enhance expertise and effectiveness in policy development and implementation by gaining insights into the latest research achievements and global technology trends from newly joined experts in advanced fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technology, and by consulting with them throughout the policy-making process.

In particular, the province intends to thoroughly discuss visions and strategies to proactively discover future growth engines amid rapidly changing industrial conditions, and will do its utmost to identify and foster strategic industries for Chungnam’s future.

Vice Governor Jeon Hyeongsik, who chairs the Science and Technology Committee, stated, “Going forward, we will establish a differentiated science and technology development strategy based on Chungnam’s outstanding human resources and technological capabilities.”
