Mokpo City to Actively Promote the Creation of a Unified Tourism Platform for the Southwest Region

Serving as a Hub for Tourism Information and Product Exhibitions
in Nine Cities and Counties

Mokpo City, Jeonnam (Mayor Park Hongryul) announced on the 11th that it will officially launch the project to establish an integrated tourism platform for the southwestern region, covering nine cities and counties (Mokpo, Muan, Shinan, Yeongam, Hampyeong, Wando, Jindo, Haenam, and Yeonggwang).

The tourism platform will be located in the Pyeonghwa-ro area (Pyeonghwa Square). After beginning detailed design in 2023, the city is aiming for completion by September this year. The platform will serve as a hub to effectively introduce tourism resources in the southwestern region and provide comprehensive information to visitors.

The integrated tourism platform for the southwestern region will be built with a total project cost of 2 billion KRW and will have two above-ground floors. The first floor will feature a tourist information center and public restrooms, as well as an information desk and nursing room for visitors. The second floor will be a flexible space for exhibiting regional tourism products such as souvenirs. Additionally, a 15-person elevator will be installed to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities.

The city expects this platform to become the center of regional tourism, providing convenience to visitors and contributing to the revitalization of tourism in the southwestern region.

A city official said, "The integrated tourism platform for the southwestern region is a project to connect the area's abundant tourism resources into one and provide better services to visitors," adding, "Once the project is completed, it is expected to greatly contribute to the revitalization of tourism in the southwestern region centered on Mokpo and to the development of the local economy."

Meanwhile, this project is being promoted by Mokpo City as part of its initiative to foster the city as a tourism hub, and it is drawing attention as a new landmark for tourism in the southwestern region.
