Ordinance for Revitalizing Village Community Media Proposed

There have been calls for residents to become the main agents in both the production and consumption of village community media.

According to the Gwangju Buk-gu Council on the 11th, Council Member Jeong Dalseong (Democratic Party, Yongbong, Maegok, Samgak, Ilgok-dong) jointly proposed the 'Partial Amendment Ordinance for Supporting the Revitalization of Village Community Media in Gwangju Buk-gu' with Council Member Ko Youngim during the 300th temporary session.

The amendment aims to specify support measures for revitalizing village community media and to establish a basis for disaster broadcasting support. The amendment includes enhancing the effectiveness of implementation plans and their relationship with related ordinances, resident participation broadcasting for media revitalization, projects to foster media activists, establishing grounds for disaster broadcasting support, and improving the effectiveness of regulations for committee establishment.

Jeong stated, "Village community media will play a significant role in establishing thorough safety measures in the era of climate crisis through disaster broadcasting that informs every corner of the village."

The ordinance is scheduled to be implemented following the review by the Economic Welfare Committee on the 12th and the resolution at the 2nd plenary session on the 14th.
