Jeongeup City Supports Neutering Surgery for 1,081 Stray Cats

Creating a Healthy Animal Ecosystem

Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province is set to launch a project this year to support neutering surgeries for 1,081 stray cats.

According to the city on the 10th, this support project was initiated to address social issues caused by the increasing number of stray cats and to create a healthy animal ecosystem.

Last month, the city signed agreements with four local animal hospitals and began systematic efforts to manage the stray cat population.

The goal of this project is to suppress the reproduction of stray cats, prevent uncontrolled population growth, and minimize conflicts within the local community through stable population control.

In particular, the project is expected to resolve resident inconveniences and reduce environmental problems caused by stray cats. Since issues such as noise and garbage damage due to the increasing number of stray cats have been continuously raised, this project is anticipated to have a positive impact on the quality of life for residents.

Citizens who wish to have stray cats neutered can apply to the Animal Protection Team of the city's Livestock Division. After receiving applications, a capture team will visit the site to capture stray cats, and the neutering surgery will be performed at one of the designated animal hospitals.

A city official stated, "The stray cat neutering support project is important not only for animal protection but also for citizen safety and environmental protection," and added, "We plan to continue building a city where humans and animals can coexist."
