Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, Attends 2025 Jeongwol Daeboreum Event
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, attended the ‘2025 Eulsa Year Jeongwol Daeboreum Hanmadang’ event held on the afternoon of the 9th at the lower area of Danghyeoncheon in Nowon-gu, Seoul.
On this day, Mayor Oh experienced various seasonal customs with residents visiting the event, including Jegichagi and rope twisting, and participated together in the main event, Nakwhanori (string fire play), praying for a year of abundance.
The Nakwhanori (string fire play), held amid much public interest, is a traditional Korean fireworks display mainly enjoyed over water. When the Nakwhan sticks filled with charcoal powder were lit, red flames crackled and fell like rain, creating a spectacular scene. Following this, the lively Samulnori performance by the Kim Deok-su troupe, praying for peace and prosperity for the year, took place, and traditional cultural events such as a ritual ceremony and burning of the Daljip (moon house) concluded the festivities.
The district operated a mobile crowd safety management system during peak viewing times and conducted focused monitoring of surrounding CCTV throughout the festival to ensure residents could safely enjoy the event with a prompt response system in place. Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “We prepared so that residents could spend a rich time blending tradition and modernity while welcoming the first full moon of the new year together. I hope that at the start of the year, everyone’s wishes come true and that prosperous and happy days continue.”
