Gwangju City is making every effort to minimize damage to citizens as heavy snowfall and severe cold hit the area on the 7th.

On this day, the city held an 'Emergency Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Situation Assessment Meeting' in the afternoon at the City Hall Disaster Situation Room, jointly with relevant departments and the five autonomous districts, to review countermeasures by sector to minimize casualties and disaster damage due to the heavy snow and cold wave.

At the meeting, presided over by Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Ko Gwangwan, the city and the autonomous districts reviewed and prepared sector-specific countermeasures that should be prioritized in response to the snow and cold wave.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Gwangju is expected to experience severe cold and heavy snowfall on the 7th and 8th, with temperatures below zero and 5 to 10 cm of snow forecasted.

During the assessment meeting, Vice Mayor Ko instructed not only snow removal on main roads but also countermeasures for snow removal on residential back roads. Regardless of the lifting of the heavy snow advisory, the plan is to make every effort to remove remaining snow and minimize inconvenience to citizens.

The city, together with the autonomous districts and the 2nd Ring Road, will conduct overnight snow removal operations on 525 priority routes covering 680 km, and operate a snow removal complaint response team to address areas where snow removal is insufficient.

In addition, considering the significant drop in minimum temperatures, the city will thoroughly implement protection measures for vulnerable groups such as the homeless and elderly living alone. Together with the Dasiseogi Comprehensive Support Center, protection measures for the homeless at Gwangcheon Terminal and other locations will be implemented, and patrols in vulnerable areas will be strengthened.

Vice Mayor Ko said, "Snowfall is forecasted between the early hours of the 7th and 8th. In particular, the 8th is a holiday, so difficulties in disaster response are expected," and requested, "All relevant departments should do their utmost to implement follow-up measures after the snowfall."
