"Expansion of Transportation Infrastructure
and Balanced Development in Underdeveloped Regions"
Lee Cheol, Vice Chairman of the Jeonnam Provincial Council (Democratic Party of Korea, Wando 1), called for the adoption of the island bridge and connecting bridge projects as presidential election pledges and urged balanced development in underdeveloped regions during the Planning and Coordination Office's work report at the 387th extraordinary session on the 6th.
Vice Chairman Lee stated, "Many island regions still lack island and connecting bridges, which means even the basic right to mobility for residents is not guaranteed," and emphasized, "Active efforts at the provincial level are needed to ensure these projects are included as pledges in the next presidential election and as national policy tasks."
Regarding the 'Jeonnam-type Balanced Development 300 Project,' Vice Chairman Lee urged, "As the Jeonnam-type Balanced Development 300 Project shifts from relying on central government projects to promoting large-scale, region-led development initiatives, support is needed so that underdeveloped areas can lay the foundation for sustainable growth."
In response, Jang Heonbeom, Director of the Planning and Coordination Office, said, "We will do our utmost to have the island and connecting bridge projects adopted as presidential election pledges," and added, "We will also promote the balanced development project transparently and fairly to achieve tangible regional development."
