Former Governor of Gyeongnam Kim Kyung-soo, known as a pro-Moon Jae-in faction member, rejoined the Democratic Party of Korea on the 7th. Kim stated, "I will devote all my efforts to achieving regime change through winning the presidential election."

Kim Sung-hoe, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, told reporters after the Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly that day, "Today, the reinstatement of seven members was reported to the Supreme Council, including former Governor Kim."

He added, "There was a report on the reinstatement review by the Gyeongnam Provincial Party, and Kim was on the list," explaining, "This was not a matter decided by the Supreme Council but by the Gyeongnam Provincial Party."

Former Governor Kim was automatically expelled from the party after the Supreme Court confirmed his guilty verdict in the 'Druking comment' case in 2021. He was later pardoned in the 2022 New Year's amnesty and reinstated in the August Liberation Day amnesty last year.

Kim applied for reinstatement to the Gyeongnam Provincial Party, his previous party affiliation, on the 31st of last month.

On the same day, Kim posted on his social media service (SNS) Facebook, "I heard the news that I was reinstated today," expressing, "I feel deeply moved."

He said, "Today, I have returned to my political hometown, my heart's hometown," adding, "Hearing the news that my reinstatement was decided on a morning when snow was falling softly makes my heart flutter like a child’s. I will start anew with a fresh heart."

He continued, "I hope my reinstatement will be a small step toward our party becoming a 'greater Democratic Party,'" and added, "I will remain a member of the Democratic Party from beginning to end."
