"I have to keep broadcasting to feed my employees"
False claim: "My son rented a chartered plane"
Amid the sudden passing of Taiwanese actress Su Hyi-won, wife of singer and DJ Koo Jun-yup, the late Su Hyi-won's (Xu Xiyuan·48) mother-in-law is facing criticism from the public for "exploiting her daughter-in-law for profit."
On the 6th (local time), Taiwanese media Liberty Times reported that Su Hyi-won's remains arrived in Taiwan on the same day her former mother-in-law, Chinese businesswoman Zhang Lan, conducted a live commerce broadcast. During the broadcast, she falsely claimed, "My son rented a chartered plane for Su Hyi-won's bereaved family."
The live broadcast lasted about 1 hour and 14 minutes, attracting 9.3 million viewers and 286,000 concurrent viewers. Zhang Lan reportedly earned 1 million yuan (approximately 199 million KRW) from this. When criticized locally in Taiwan and China for "using her deceased daughter-in-law for personal gain," she showed indifference, saying, "I don't care whether people see it as good or bad." She emphasized, "I have 7,000 employees. To feed them, I have no choice but to continue broadcasting."
Earlier, Su Hyi-won passed away on the 3rd due to complications from the flu (acute pneumonia). Her younger sister, Su Hyi-je, stated in a press release, "During the Lunar New Year holiday, our family traveled to Japan, and my most beloved sister left us due to pneumonia caused by the flu." She added, "Being my sister's sibling in this life, caring for and relying on each other, was a great blessing to me," and mourned, "I am grateful to my sister and will deeply miss her. I will love and remember her forever."
On the 6th, Koo Jun-yup posted on his social media, "My angel has returned to heaven. I deeply thank everyone who has offered their condolences," and shared, "Right now, I am going through an indescribable time of sorrow and pain, feeling as if my intestines are being torn apart." He continued, "Before the pain of loss and mourning could even pass, devilish people began to slander our family and my love. They are spreading fake news about insurance and expenses, causing wounds," expressing anger and pleading, "Could you please remain silent so that our Hyi-won can rest in peace? I earnestly ask this."
