Kookmin University Honored with Two Awards at Future Automobile Competition

Capstone Projects Linked with Industry
Showcase Outstanding Practical Skills

Kookmin University announced on the 7th that students from the College of Automotive Convergence showcased a model case of industry-academia cooperation by winning the Minister of Education Award and the Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Award at the 2024 Future Automotive Capstone Competition.

Kookmin University Honored with Two Awards at Future Automobile Competition Students from the College of Automotive Convergence at Kookmin University won the Minister of Education Award and the Chairman Award of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Future Automotive Capstone Competition.

Supported by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this competition involved seven universities including Kookmin University, Keimyung University, Daelim University, Sunmoon University, Ajou University, Inha University, and Chungbuk National University participating as the Future Automotive Consortium, competing with innovative practical technologies developed through collaboration with companies.


The first-place Maximize team (students Taewoong Yoon, Changhyun Han, Maksim Seok), under the guidance of Professor Dongseok Kim, collaborated with GM Technical Center Korea to build a three-wheeled kickboard, developing a personal mobility device significantly enhanced in safety by equipping it with cameras and smart sensors.


The second-place Mosevi team (students Sebi Kim, Jahyun Kang, Taejong Lim), also under the guidance of Professor Sanghoon Jeon, partnered with Samsung Electronics to complete a cyber intrusion detection system based on the automotive CAN network, earning recognition for their excellent technical skills.


A Kookmin University official stated, “The capstone course at the College of Automotive Convergence provides students with practical product development experience to apply the theories learned at school in real-world settings, greatly contributing to strengthening their employment competitiveness,” adding, “We will continue to lead the future automotive field through innovative technology development centered on industry-academia cooperation.”


Meanwhile, Kookmin University is taking the lead in enhancing the overall competitiveness of the industry by accelerating the cultivation of talent in autonomous driving and AI-based future automobiles through its role as the lead university of the Future Automotive Consortium under the Ministry of Education’s Advanced Field Innovation Convergence University Project and the BK21 Autonomous Driving xEV Innovative Talent Education and Research Project.
