Eight Organizations Including Busan City-Funded R&D Support Agencies and Government-Funded Research Institutes Participate
Introduction of 91 Projects Worth 89.4 Billion KRW, Record Attendance of 375 Researchers
Busan City and the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, Director Kim Young-bu) announced that they successfully held the ‘2025 Busan City R&D Project Joint Briefing Session’ at the Busan City Hall auditorium on the 5th.
The briefing session, held annually since 2018, is hosted by Busan City and organized by BISTEP to provide information on Busan City's research and development projects and to promote the participation of local researchers.
Especially this year, in addition to the existing participating organizations such as the Busan Regional Industry Promotion Agency, Busan Economic Promotion Agency, Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency, Busan Research and Development Special Zone Headquarters of the Research and Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation, and Busan Technopark, government-funded research institutes including the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) and the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) newly participated, expanding the total number of organizations to eight and providing more diverse information.
The briefing session began with BISTEP’s introduction of the ‘2025 Government and Busan City R&D Investment Directions’ and included detailed explanations of major projects by each institution. A total of 91 R&D projects (worth 89.375 billion KRW) were introduced, attracting high interest from local industry-academia-research researchers.
Seong Chang-yong, chairman of the Planning and Finance Committee of the Busan City Council, attended the briefing session to encourage researchers active in industry, academia, and research sectors and delivered a message of support for the revitalization of research and development in Busan. Additionally, Hwang Jun-woo, head of the Biohealth R&D Division of the Advanced Industry Bureau of Busan City, explained the city’s active support policy for attracting research and development projects and showed a strong commitment to strengthening Busan’s R&D competitiveness.
Director Kim Young-bu of BISTEP emphasized, “Through the creative and active activities of local industry-academia-research researchers, various challenges faced by the region can be solved, which will lead to the development of science and technology and regional innovation in Busan.” He added, “We hope that the briefing session will enhance local researchers’ understanding of R&D projects and promote cooperation among regional R&D innovation entities.”
