The Korea Student Aid Foundation (Chairman Bae Byeong-il) and the Ministry of Education (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Ju-ho) will accept applications for the 2nd round of national scholarships for the first semester of the 2025 academic year from 9 a.m. on the 4th until 6 p.m. on March 18.
The national scholarship is an income-linked scholarship provided by the government to students whose income and assets are below a certain level and who meet academic criteria, in order to alleviate the tuition burden for university students.
The student loan support bracket reflects the income evaluation amount of the student and household members (father, mother, or spouse), the income conversion amount of assets such as real estate, and deductions based on the number of siblings, and the calculation takes about eight weeks.
During this 2nd application period, freshmen (expected to enroll in the first semester), transfer students, re-enrolled students, returning students, and current students who missed the 1st application can apply for the national scholarship. After the 2nd application deadline, it will no longer be possible to apply for the 2nd semester national scholarship, so applications must be submitted within the period. For current students, applying in the 1st round is the principle, but they may apply in the 2nd round up to twice during their enrollment.
Applications for the national scholarship can be submitted through the Korea Student Aid Foundation website and the ‘Korea Student Aid Foundation’ mobile app. When applying for the national scholarship, Type I and II scholarships and multi-child scholarships are applied for simultaneously.
In the 2025 academic year, the support criteria will be significantly expanded from the previous 8 income brackets or below to 9 brackets or below. For the newly eligible 9th bracket, Type I national scholarship recipients can receive 1 million KRW annually, and for multi-child families, the first and second children can receive 1.35 million KRW annually, and the third child or beyond can receive 2 million KRW annually.
Students who were not eligible for scholarship support in the 2024 academic year due to income requirements, etc., should actively check their eligibility and apply for scholarships.
