Younger Sister Seo Heeje Issues Statement
"I Will Love and Remember Her Forever"
It has been reported that Taiwanese actress Seo Heewon (48), wife of singer and DJ Koo Junyup, has suddenly passed away.
On the 3rd (local time), local media such as Taiwan Yahoo and ETtoday reported that Seo Heewon died from complications of the flu (acute pneumonia). According to the reports, Seo Heewon's younger sister Seo Heeje announced the news of her death through a statement. Seo Heeje said, "We deeply appreciate everyone's concern," and added, "During the Lunar New Year holiday, our family traveled to Japan, and my beloved older sister left us due to pneumonia caused by the flu." She continued, "Being her sister in this life, caring for and relying on each other, was a great blessing to me," and expressed her condolences, saying, "I am grateful to my sister and will deeply miss her. I hope she rests in peace. I will love and remember her forever."
Seo Heewon debuted in 1994 with her sister Seo Heeje as part of the group ASOS. In 2001, she gained great popularity across Asia by playing the lead role in the Taiwanese version of the drama 'Boys Over Flowers,' titled 'Meteor Garden.' She later appeared in numerous works including 'A Chinese Ghost Story,' 'Mars,' 'The Legend of the Condor Heroes,' 'Formal Underworld,' 'Millionaire's Express,' 'Motorway: Fast and Furious,' and 'Future Cops X.'
Seo Heewon is especially well known in South Korea as the spouse of Koo Junyup. She dated Koo Junyup for about a year starting in 1998 but broke up due to opposition from her agency. After some time, she married Wang Xiaofei in 2011, but after 10 years of marriage, they divorced and she reunited with Koo Junyup. In March 2022, Koo Junyup announced their marriage on his social media, stating, "I am trying to continue a love that was left unresolved with the woman I loved 20 years ago."
At that time, Koo Junyup explained, "I found that phone number from 20 years ago and contacted her. Fortunately, the number was still the same, so we were able to reconnect. We could no longer waste the much time that had already passed, so I proposed marriage," and added, "We decided to register our marriage and live together. Since this is a late marriage, I ask for your support and blessings." Afterwards, Koo Junyup traveled to Taiwan to register their marriage locally and even got Seo Heewon's name tattooed on his right arm.
