Gyeonggi Province will support the installation of ‘Safety Emergency Bells’ in 1,019 public restrooms this year.
On the 2nd, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will support the installation of safety emergency bells in public restrooms to prevent crimes and ensure the prompt dispatch of police.
In case of an emergency inside a public restroom, pressing the safety emergency bell will notify the police and others, trigger an alarm sound inside and outside the restroom, and simultaneously activate an external warning light.
This year, Gyeonggi Province will invest 171 million KRW of provincial funds to install safety emergency bells in 1,019 locations. As a result, the total number of public restrooms equipped with safety emergency bells in the province reached 3,898 as of the end of last year. This is the highest among the 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide.
An official from the Gyeonggi Provincial Water Resources Headquarters stated, "We will do our best to prevent crimes in public restrooms and ensure that residents can use public restrooms with peace of mind."
Meanwhile, along with supporting the installation of safety emergency bells in public restrooms, Gyeonggi Province plans to conduct its own occasional inspections to verify the normal operation of safety management facilities such as emergency bells. It will also request 31 cities and counties to conduct a comprehensive inspection of safety management facilities including emergency bells in the first half of the year and ongoing occasional facility inspections throughout the year.
