Securing Special Disaster Safety Grant
for Embankment Reinforcement in Daedeokcheon
Damyang County in Jeollanam-do has secured a special disaster safety grant of 1 billion KRW from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to implement a disaster prevention project for the local river, Daedeokcheon.
According to the county on the 1st, heavy rainfall in 2020 and 2023 caused damage to the embankments and facilities of Daedeokcheon, resulting in repeated flooding of farmland and significant disruption to the lives and agricultural infrastructure of local residents. This has led to growing anxiety and concern among the community each year.
In response, the county emphasized the urgency of addressing disaster-prone sections of Daedeokcheon and continuously requested budget support, ultimately securing the special grant.
The secured funds will be allocated to the embankment reinforcement project in the Galjeon-ri area of Daedeok-myeon. The county plans to complete the design and administrative procedures early and finish construction within this year.
County Governor Lee Byeongno stated, "This project aims to reduce disaster risks in the Daedeokcheon area and protect the safety and agricultural foundation of local residents. Moving forward, we will continue to prioritize the safety of our citizens and implement comprehensive and proactive disaster prevention measures."
