Ministry of Economy and Finance Selects Yaksan-Geumil Bridge Project for Preliminary Feasibility Study
Wando-Goheung Coastal Tourism Road Project Moves Forward with 409.9 Billion KRW Budget
The long-awaited project of Wando County, the construction of a new bridge connecting National Road No. 27 from Wando Yaksan to Geumil, has been selected as a candidate for the preliminary feasibility study.
On the 31st, Wando County announced that the Yaksan?Geumil bridge construction was selected as a preliminary feasibility study project under the ‘6th National and Local Road Construction Plan’ by the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee.
The Yaksan?Geumil bridge, selected this time, is the first phase of the Wando?Goheung Coastal Tourism Road project, which will connect the islands of Wando and Goheung with five bridges. The total length is 7.8 km, with a project budget of 409.9 billion KRW. The entire Wando?Goheung Coastal Tourism Road project will span 27.4 km with a total budget of 900.8 billion KRW.
The ‘6th National and Local Road Construction Plan’ is a national plan outlining the construction of national and local roads from 2026 to 2030. Since 2023, preliminary reviews and feasibility studies have been conducted to finalize the project sites.
Since the upgrade of the road between Wando and Goheung to a national road, Wando County has made continuous efforts, including consultations with central government agencies and cooperation with Jeollanam-do, to ensure the project’s inclusion in the ‘6th National and Local Road Construction Plan.’ Moving forward, the Korea Development Institute (KDI) will conduct on-site investigations and evaluate economic and policy feasibility, with the final project site expected to be selected in the first half of 2025.
County Governor Shin Woochul stated, “We will do our utmost to ensure the early completion of the bridge connecting Yaksan and Geumil, so that island residents can secure their basic right to transportation and improve their quality of life through revitalized marine tourism.” He added, “This selection was made possible thanks to continuous consultations with officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as well as the active support of National Assembly members Park Jie-won, Son Myung-soo, and Ahn Do-geol.”
