Dangjin City in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 31st that it will significantly increase the collection compensation for agricultural waste to the highest level in the country in order to promote the collection of agricultural waste.

According to the city, starting this year, the collection compensation for waste vinyl, a type of agricultural waste, will be increased by up to 52% compared to last year.

For Grade A waste vinyl, which is cleanly sorted by color and can be supplied directly to recycling companies without additional processing, the compensation will be raised from 170 KRW per kilogram to 260 KRW, a 52% increase. For Grade B waste vinyl, the compensation will be increased from 150 KRW per kilogram last year to 180 KRW, a 20% increase.

This increase in compensation reflects Dangjin City's strong commitment to solving the agricultural waste problem in order to protect the rural environment and achieve carbon neutrality.

Last year, Dangjin City collected 2,557 tons of waste vinyl, the second highest amount in the province, and paid out 385 million KRW in compensation.

This year, the city has set a target of collecting 2,600 tons and plans to improve the efficiency of the collection system through various support policies and promotional activities to encourage farmers' participation.

Mayor Oh Seonghwan said, "Promoting the collection of waste vinyl will help prevent environmental pollution caused by abandoned waste vinyl and prevent illegal incineration, which will reduce the risk of wildfires and fine dust. By expanding the collection compensation at the village level, we also expect to raise joint funds and foster a sense of community."
