Over 11,000 Spectators Gather for the Taean Seollal Ssireum Championship

The "Withus Pharmaceutical 2025 Taean Seollal Ssireum Championship," held in Taean-gun, Chungnam for seven days from the 24th to the 30th, concluded successfully amid enthusiastic support from local residents.
Additionally, over 5,000 visitors paid their respects at the Yeongmyojeon, and many tourists visited Taean, bringing vibrancy to various parts of the region during the Lunar New Year holiday.
According to the county, a total of about 11,000 spectators filled the stadium for the Seollal Ssireum Championship, which was held in Taean for the second consecutive year, demonstrating the fervor of this stronghold of ssireum wrestling.
During the tournament, Choi Sungmin reached the finals in the Baekdu division (under 140kg), and Kwon Jinwook advanced to the finals in the Geumgang division (under 90kg), delivering spectacular matches. The Taean County Office Ssireum Team (coached by Kwak Hyundong) also participated with great passion, earning enthusiastic applause.
This event marked the fourth ssireum tournament held at the Taean Indoor Gymnasium, following the 2021 Chuseok Ssireum Championship, the 2022 Presidential Cup National Ssireum King Selection Tournament, and last year's Seollal Ssireum Championship. The event was evaluated as a success thanks to thorough preparations by the Korea Ssireum Association and Taean County Ssireum Association, as well as the active support of Taean County and related organizations.
In particular, during the tournament, a total of 260 volunteers from the Volunteer Fire Brigade, Autonomous Crime Prevention Unit, Taean County Sports Council, Taean High School Ssireum Team, Model Drivers Association, and Taean Passenger Bus Company participated, highlighting the active involvement of local residents.
On the 28th and 29th, the number of spectators far exceeded the gymnasium's capacity, with crowds filling the corridors and stairways, creating a remarkable scene.
Through this tournament, major events such as the "Visit Taean Year" campaign and next year's "Taean Horticultural Healing Expo" were actively promoted to the public. Slogans like "The Garden of Korea, Taean" and "City of Healing" were broadcast during the event, maximizing publicity effects.
In addition to the ssireum championship, many returning residents and tourists visited their hometowns and major attractions in Taean during the Lunar New Year holiday, enjoying a safe and peaceful festive season throughout the region.
During the holiday, a total of 5,324 visitors paid their respects at the Nam-myeon Public Yeongmyojeon, while 2,530 people visited the Anmyeondo Recreational Forest, 1,270 visited the Cheollipo Arboretum, and 930 visited the Anmyeondo Jurassic Museum. In total, 5,370 people enjoyed major paid tourist sites during the holiday.
County Governor Gasero stated, "Thanks to the hard work of public officials in successfully operating the ssireum championship and ensuring a safe holiday atmosphere, both residents and visitors were able to enjoy a pleasant Lunar New Year. This year as well, we will strive to bring smiles to our residents by providing high-quality public services and leading the promotion of key mid- to long-term projects."
