The city is conducting this event with the purpose of encouraging local businesses and related organizations to take the lead in shopping at traditional markets and small business stores within the region, thereby participating in revitalizing the local commercial districts. To ensure this is not a one-time event but a continuous shopping campaign, it is being promoted in a relay format.

On the 21st, the General Affairs Saemaeul Division, together with the Pohang Saemaeul Association, visited Hyoja Market to continue the traditional market shopping relay. On the same day, employees from the Lifelong Education Division purchased affordable and high-quality agricultural products and ceremonial items at Daehai Bulbit Market, sharing the joy of using traditional markets while also leading efforts to foster an environmental protection culture by using self-made eco-bags.

Additionally, on the 22nd, the Marine and Fisheries Bureau, along with about 50 members from the Gyeongbuk Province East Sea Regional Headquarters and the Korea Fisheries Management Association Pohang Federation, continued the shopping event at Guryongpo Traditional Market, injecting vitality into the traditional market struggling with economic recession and high inflation.

At Guryongpo Market, a refund event for Onnuri gift certificates will be held from the 23rd to the 27th in celebration of the Lunar New Year holiday. When purchasing domestic agricultural, livestock, and marine products, customers will receive a refund of 10,000 KRW for purchases over 34,000 KRW and 20,000 KRW for purchases over 67,000 KRW.

On the same day, employees from the Tourism Policy Division visited Yeonil Traditional Market to purchase holiday gifts, agricultural and specialty products, and seasonal items, enjoying the sights, food, and tasting experiences of the traditional market. About 30 employees from the Green City Project Team visited nearby Ocheon Market during lunch break, promoting the special 10% discount sale of Pohang Love Gift Certificates for the Lunar New Year and supporting local commercial revitalization by dining at restaurants within the traditional market.

A Pohang City official said, “We hope today’s shopping event will breathe new life into traditional markets and contribute even a little to revitalizing the local economy,” adding, “Even after the event ends, we will continue to encourage the use of traditional markets to take the lead in revitalizing the regional economy.”
