On the same day, Minister Cho posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), "I feel deep sorrow over the tragic accident at Ronald Reagan Airport," and added, "I pray for good news and sincerely send my thoughts to all those affected."

On the 29th (local time), a small passenger plane operated by PSA Airlines under American Airlines, while approaching Ronald Reagan Airport in Washington DC for landing at around 8:53 PM, collided mid-air with a Sikorsky H-60 (Black Hawk) helicopter belonging to the U.S. Army and crashed into the nearby Potomac River.

U.S. CBS News, citing local police officials, reported that as of 11:30 PM local time that day, at least 18 bodies had been recovered, and no survivors had yet been found. The crashed plane was carrying 60 passengers and 4 crew members.

The Korean government is attempting to obtain the passenger list. It has not yet been confirmed whether any Koreans were on board the aircraft.
