All-Out Efforts for Crime and Safety Accident Prevention
During this year's Lunar New Year holiday period, the average daily number of 112 emergency calls and crime reports decreased compared to last year.
According to the National Police Agency on the 30th, as a result of implementing special security measures for the Lunar New Year holiday, the average daily 112 emergency calls decreased by 6.6%, and crime reports decreased by 1.5%. This outcome was achieved by thoroughly analyzing security data before the full-scale special security activities in each region and establishing customized security measures, focusing on practical crime and safety accident prevention efforts.
The police concentrated on cracking down on major crimes such as burglary and theft, domestic violence, phishing scams, and drug-related offenses, handling 6,344 violent crime cases (with 180 arrests). During the holiday period, personnel were deployed to manage safety at crowded places such as local festivals and multi-use facilities like airports and train stations, also strengthening counter-terrorism safety activities.
The police conducted phased, customized traffic management during the long holiday and nationwide heavy snowfall. In particular, they pre-inspected and managed accident-prone sections and congested areas, facilitating smooth vehicle flow and accident prevention on the outbound and return routes. As a result, the average daily traffic accidents decreased by 42.9%, and fatalities decreased by 5.0% compared to the previous year.
A police official stated, “We will continue to concentrate all our efforts on establishing public safety so that citizens can enjoy a secure and peaceful daily life.”
