BOI explained that TikTok's digital infrastructure investment was made for services set to launch next year. Data hosting is a service that securely stores and manages data.

TikTok has previously succeeded in attracting data centers from global companies such as Amazon, Google, and Microsoft (MS).

BOI stated, "TikTok's investment marks a significant advancement in strengthening Thailand's digital and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure," adding, "It brings us closer to our goal of becoming a digital innovation hub in Southeast Asia."

Meanwhile, this investment was announced amid TikTok facing the risk of being banned in the United States. The U.S. Congress passed the so-called 'TikTok Ban Act,' which prohibits TikTok from operating locally unless its parent company, ByteDance, sells its U.S. business rights to an American company.
