Bloomberg: "Export Restrictions on H20 Chips for China Under Consideration"
The U.S. Donald Trump administration is reportedly considering additional sanctions on the export of AI semiconductor company Nvidia to China, according to foreign media reports.
On the 29th (local time), Bloomberg News cited multiple anonymous sources saying that although the discussions are in the early stages, there is a possibility that Nvidia's export control scope could be expanded to include the H20 chip products.
Nvidia launched the low-spec H20 product for export to China in accordance with the U.S. government's export control policies to China.
Sources said that the Joe Biden administration also considered including H20 in the export control list but it did not materialize, and they expect it will take time for the regulations to be implemented.
This report came amid rising tensions in the U.S. market as Chinese startup DeepSeek unveiled a low-cost, high-performance AI model.
According to Bloomberg and multiple foreign media outlets, OpenAI and Microsoft (MS) have launched an investigation into allegations that DeepSeek unlawfully used OpenAI's data.
Also, as DeepSeek's ability to develop AI models at low cost emerged, there were predictions that Nvidia's expensive chips might no longer be necessary, leading to a 16.97% plunge in Nvidia's stock price on the 27th.
