"Active Fiscal Policy Needed... Listen to Voices from the Field"
The Democratic Party of Korea urged the government on the 29th to "begin drafting a supplementary budget for livelihood measures, including the issuance of local currency and direct support."
Chief Spokesperson Cho Seung-rae stated in a written briefing that "with open runs occurring and platforms temporarily paralyzed, the local currency and incentives expanded by Democratic Party local governments for the Lunar New Year holiday have revitalized traditional markets after a long time."
Cho added, "Despite the economic downturn and political instability freezing consumption, local currency has eased the strain on the local economy. However, local currency and livelihood recovery support funds have not spread more widely due to opposition from the government and the People Power Party, remaining limited to Democratic Party local governments."
He continued, "Now is the time for an active role of fiscal policy. The cases of Democratic Party local governments demonstrate that fiscal spending can play a significant role in stimulating consumption. We hope the government will move beyond armchair theorizing and political logic and listen to these voices from the field."
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party additionally released part of a video filmed on the day of the Dior bag incident involving First Lady Kim Geon-hee, wife of President Yoon Seok-yeol, through a press release. In the video, Mrs. Kim tells Pastor Choi Jae-young, "Extreme right or extreme left must disappear. They have ruined the country like this," adding, "Since this government was born through conservative power, there may be some slight appeasement, but fundamentally, that is not the case."
