On the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, the 30th, the cold wave will peak with morning temperatures in Seoul dropping to -10 degrees Celsius.
The morning low temperatures are forecasted to range from -17 to -1 degrees Celsius, and the daytime highs from -4 to 8 degrees Celsius.
Due to strong winds, the wind chill will make it feel even colder. Especially in northern Gyeonggi, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, and central and northern Chungbuk, where cold wave warnings are in effect, morning temperatures will fall below -12 degrees Celsius, making it extremely cold.
Most of the country will be generally clear, but there will be occasional clouds in western Gangwon, Chungnam region, Jeolla region, and Jeju Island.
Snowfall is expected in some areas of the western coast of Chungnam, southern inland Chungnam, and Jeonbuk from dawn to morning. The expected snowfall amount is around 1 cm, and the expected precipitation is about 1 mm.
With heavy snow accumulation in most parts of the country and daytime temperatures remaining below freezing, many places will experience icy roads and frozen surfaces, so caution is advised for traffic safety.
Fine dust levels are expected to be 'moderate' nationwide. However, the Seoul metropolitan area, western Gangwon, Chungcheong region, Honam region, and Jeju area will experience 'bad' levels in the morning.
Strong winds with gusts reaching around 55 km/h (up to 70 km/h in mountainous areas) are expected in eastern Gangwon and the Gyeongsang region.
In the eastern sea offshore of the southern East Sea and southern offshore waters of Jeju Island, winds will blow very strongly at speeds of 30 to 70 km/h until the 30th, and in the East Sea offshore until the 31st, with very high waves.
Wave heights will range from 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the East Sea nearshore waters, and from 0.5 to 2.0 meters in the West Sea and South Sea nearshore waters.
In the outer offshore waters (about 200 km from the coastline), wave heights are predicted to be 1.5 to 4.0 meters in the East Sea, 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the West Sea, and 0.5 to 3.0 meters in the South Sea.
