Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education will operate the "Student Global Leader World Tour" this year to nurture students as global leaders with a sense of global citizenship.
According to the Office of Education on the 29th, the "Student Global Leader World Tour" received high praise last year, with more than 500 students visiting 20 countries including Germany, the United States, and Australia, and a satisfaction rate reaching 99.4% among participants.

This year, the same 16 programs as last year will be offered. The themes include democracy, human rights, peace, globalization of May 18, history and culture, volunteering, AI and digital, culture, arts and sports, reading, and ecological education.
The first tour will take place in Germany this March under the theme of "Democracy, Human Rights, and Peaceful Unification." For eight days and six nights, students will participate in a commemorative ceremony with the Frankfurt-based May 18 organization in Germany and engage in promotional activities for the May 18 Democratization Movement. They will also visit the Jewish Museum, the Berlin Wall, and Goethe's birthplace to gain a deeper understanding of Germany's democratic civic consciousness.
The cultivation of global leaders is also actively taking place at individual schools. Last year, about 130 students from 13 schools in the Gwangju area experienced 11 countries, including the United Kingdom and Singapore, through overseas academic tours. In addition, 1,522 students in 32 teams participated in online international exchanges, and 227 students from 15 elementary, middle, and high schools took part in face-to-face exchange activities.
Other programs include "You & I Together," a project under the Gwangsan Education Internationalization Special Zone; the "Teaching and Learning International Exchange Teacher Research Association," an international exchange program based on Korean language education; the "Stepping into the World" Korean class sharing project; the "Connecting with the World" international online class exchange; and the "On-the-Go Self-Directed Career Exploration and Reading Exchange Program" for students to explore careers and aptitudes.
This year, the Office of Education will expand international exchanges by launching new projects in cooperation with the National Institute for International Education and UNESCO, such as the "Korea-Japan-China Children's Fairy Tale Exchange Competition," the "Korea-Japan High School Student Exchange Program," and support for UNESCO schools.
Superintendent Lee Jeongseon said, "Through international exchange programs, we expect to promote the spirit of May 18 in Gwangju and the excellence of Korean culture such as K-POP to the world," adding, "We hope students will grow into global leaders by fostering cultural diversity and a sense of global democratic citizenship."
