Acting Chief Choi Urges "Thorough Investigation and Establishment of Recurrence Prevention Measures" for Air Busan Fire Yonhap News

Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang-mok, who also serves as the Minister of Economy and Finance, instructed a thorough investigation into the Air Busan passenger plane fire accident on the 29th.


According to a press message released by the Ministry of Economy and Finance that morning, Acting President Choi stated regarding the Air Busan passenger plane fire accident, "I understand that some passengers were injured during the evacuation process, so prompt follow-up measures are necessary."


He then directed, "The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and related agencies must swiftly manage the accident, conduct a thorough investigation into the cause, and prepare measures to prevent recurrence."


Acting President Choi said, "Although the Air Busan passenger plane was half-burned in the fire accident, fortunately, all passengers and crew safely evacuated, so there were no casualties."


He added, "Since many flights operate at Gimhae Airport, please make active efforts to ensure the safe operation of aircraft and prevent inconvenience to the public."


At around 10:15 p.m. the previous day, a fire broke out on an Air Busan aircraft preparing for takeoff at the Gimhae Airport apron, bound for Hong Kong, and all 176 passengers and crew evacuated in an emergency. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is investigating the cause of the accident together with officials from the Aircraft and Railway Accident Investigation Board who were dispatched urgently.
