A Pose and Expression Suggesting a More Proactive Approach
Melania Trump, wife of U.S. President Donald Trump, has released an official portrait as First Lady through the White House. This contrasts with her reclusive behavior during President Trump's first term.
On the 27th (local time), Melania Trump unveiled the official photo via the White House. In the photo, she is seen wearing a white shirt and a dark suit, resting both hands on a desk while staring directly ahead. Beyond the window behind her, one of Washington D.C.'s symbols, the Washington Monument, is visible.
The photo was reportedly taken on the 21st, the day after entering the White House, in the state reception room of the residence. Unlike the usual impression expected of a First Lady, it appears to signal a willingness to take a more front-facing role. The British BBC analyzed this as a sign of a more proactive approach.
Professor Gwendolyn Dubois Shaw of the University of Pennsylvania told BBC, "Her body and the Washington Monument, a symbol of power, are harmonized," adding, "Her posture, with fingertips firmly placed on the highly reflective desk, seems to announce 'ready to get down to business'." She further commented, "When Melania first stayed at the White House, she seemed somewhat hesitant about wielding power, but now she appears prepared to exercise it."
U.S. Fox News also reported that interpretations on social media suggest Melania Trump's photo conveys a strong message.
