Jeonbuk Province raised its emergency response level from Level 2 to Level 3 at 10:00 a.m. on the 28th after a heavy snow advisory was issued for all areas in the province. At 10:40 a.m., Governor Kim Kwanyoung presided over an emergency countermeasure meeting on heavy snow and cold wave response with relevant departments, related agencies, and city and county officials.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Jeonbuk is expected to see continuous snowfall of 5 to 15 cm (with some areas exceeding 20 cm) until the 29th. With low temperatures, cold and strong winds, and rainfall of 5 to 10 mm are also forecast.
Governor Kim Kwanyoung instructed officials to strengthen road snow removal and de-icing measures and enhance protection for vulnerable facilities and groups, anticipating increased traffic during the Lunar New Year holiday period as the heavy snow is expected to continue throughout. He also urged all administrative resources to be mobilized to minimize property damage and casualties.
Accordingly, Jeonbuk Province and its cities and counties plan to promptly spread snow-melting agents on major roads and sections vulnerable to icing, and thoroughly inspect vulnerable facilities such as greenhouses that may collapse or topple due to snow accumulation. In addition, they will strengthen safety management for vulnerable groups in preparation for falling temperatures and ensure the proper operation of cold wave protection and mitigation facilities.
Governor Kim Kwanyoung stated, "During the Lunar New Year holiday, we will do our utmost to ensure there is no inconvenience to residents by taking immediate action not only for snow removal but also in areas directly related to daily life, such as water supply and electricity," and added, "Please make every effort to prevent property damage and casualties by mobilizing all available equipment and personnel."
