Damyang County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Lee Byeongno), announced on the 28th that it recently held a capacity-building training session for public officials to prevent corruption and promote integrity. The event took place at the Dambit Agricultural Center auditorium with over 150 employees in attendance.

During this training, a public official with practical experience served as the instructor, enhancing the legality and transparency of public contracts. The session targeted contract and construction managers from business offices and township offices, as well as accounting staff from each department, focusing on improving their work capabilities to practice integrity.

In particular, the training provided easy-to-understand explanations of accounting knowledge that public officials need to know in the course of their duties, as well as essential laws and guidelines related to contracts and project implementation. This helped employees better understand various compliance requirements that could otherwise be overlooked and pointed out during work processes, earning positive feedback from participants.

Currently, local government officials are required to frequently transfer between departments due to job rotation, and even within the same department, they must quickly learn new tasks and become familiar with various laws and guidelines encountered for the first time. They must immediately apply this knowledge to fieldwork, making such training essential.

The training was attended not only by accounting and construction managers from county office business centers and township offices but also by other interested public officials. They listened to lectures from accounting team leaders and facility managers from the audit department, pledging to prevent corruption caused by lack of work proficiency and to practice integrity.

Governor Lee Byeongno stated, "Corruption, misconduct, and deviant acts in the public sector stem from a lack of sense of duty, momentary temptation, and ignorance. I hope this training will serve as an opportunity for personal adaptation and development so that no one uses ignorance as an excuse for corruption."
