The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is implementing support measures for college admissions targeting third-year high school students.

The Office announced on the 28th that it will present the "2025 College Admissions Early and Regular Application Guidance Case Studies" on April 4, followed by the inauguration ceremonies for the Gwangju High School Admissions Heads Association and the Gwangju College Admissions Director Association on the 25th.

Since the Lunar New Year holiday, 89 teachers from the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) Support Team have begun developing the "2025 CSAT Question Analysis and Classroom Application Guidebook." This guidebook, designed as a handbook, will be distributed to students and parents to help them prepare for the 2026 college admissions process.

On March 29, a "College Admissions Support Briefing Session" will be held for third-year high school admissions heads and homeroom teachers. On this day, teacher Park Kwonwoo, author of "Go to College After Eating Watermelon: Basic Edition," will give a special lecture, and there will be sessions explaining the 2026 admissions process, as well as regional, university, and application-type specific admissions briefings.

Additionally, the Office will operate a 24/7 career and college admissions counseling service, hold the Gwangju Career and College Admissions Expo, and develop and distribute its own CSAT mock test, "Gwangju Final Completion," to help students prepare for the exam.

Furthermore, the Career and College Admissions Division will hold a meeting with local university admissions offices in March to discuss key issues and foster a virtuous cycle in which Gwangju students attend local universities after high school, find employment or start businesses in the community, and settle in the region.

The number of college admissions slots for 2026 is expected to increase by 4,245 compared to the previous year (340,934 in 2025), with early admissions up by 4,367 and regular admissions down by 122. In the Seoul metropolitan area, early admissions account for 76,678 (65.4%), and regular admissions 42,693 (34.6%). In non-metropolitan areas, early admissions are 169,966 (89.1%), and regular admissions 22,611 (10.9%). Overall, early admissions total 246,644 (79.9%), and regular admissions 65,304 (20.1%).

The Office emphasized that, given the difference in admissions quotas between metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas, it is more important than ever to establish support strategies tailored to the target university's region and to maintain a balanced preparation strategy for both early and regular admissions.

Most early admissions select students based on school records and holistic evaluations, while regular admissions focus on the CSAT, requiring customized strategies. In the metropolitan area, the proportion of regular CSAT-based admissions and holistic early admissions is high, while in non-metropolitan areas, the proportion of school record-based admissions is higher.

In particular, since the cutoff scores for school record and holistic admissions are determined by whether the minimum CSAT academic requirement is applied, it is essential not only to maintain good grades but also to meet the minimum CSAT requirement set by the target university in order to be admitted.

Superintendent Lee Jungseon stated, "We will do our utmost to quickly provide students with the best and most up-to-date admissions information they need so they can enter the schools of their choice."
