Jeonnam Province to Significantly Expand Basic Livelihood Security Recipients

Jeollanam-do is significantly strengthening welfare support for low-income households by easing the eligibility criteria for the Basic Livelihood Security System. Approximately 140,000 residents are expected to benefit.

According to Jeollanam-do on the 28th, as the standard median income for 2025 is raised, the number of recipients eligible for basic livelihood support is expected to increase significantly. For a single-person household, the standard median income will rise by 17.1%, from 2,077,892 KRW in 2023 to 2,392,013 KRW in 2025, thereby expanding the scope of welfare support.

In particular, support for each benefit category will also be expanded. For livelihood benefits, the monthly payment for a four-person household will increase by 117,715 KRW, from 1,833,572 KRW to 1,951,287 KRW.

For educational benefits, the amount will be raised by up to 41,000 KRW to 528,000 KRW for elementary students, 719,000 KRW for middle school students, and 809,000 KRW for high school students. The support criteria for medical benefits for dependents will be lowered from 15% or 30% to 10%. The health maintenance allowance will be doubled from 6,000 KRW to 12,000 KRW.

Jeollanam-do plans to use these measures to reduce welfare blind spots and promote stability for low-income households. To this end, a budget of 433.5 billion KRW has been secured, which is a 15.3% (57.4 billion KRW) increase from the previous year.
