Construction Companies Continue Hiring Experienced Professionals Amid Recession... Moves to Secure Talent for New Business

Overseas and Specialized Recruitment Underway

Amid an unprecedented downturn in the domestic real estate market, major construction companies are continuing to hire essential talent without pause. With an expansion of on-demand recruitment focused on experienced professionals, the industry is making every effort to secure the necessary workforce.


According to industry sources on the 28th, Woomi Construction, ranked 27th in construction capability evaluation, is currently conducting practical interviews for new university graduate hires for the first half of 2025. After executive interviews next month, they will ultimately recruit a double-digit number of employees. The recruitment fields include public projects, quality technology, landscaping, finance, architecture, and civil engineering.


HDC Hyundai Development Company is conducting ongoing project contract employee recruitment for the first half of 2025. The recruitment areas are civil engineering, architecture, mechanical equipment, electrical, quality, and safety and health positions. Candidates with more than four years of relevant experience are preferred. For the sales (order acquisition, urban maintenance projects) division, only those with more than three years of practical experience can apply. These are full-time positions, and the application deadline is the 2nd of next month.

Doosan Construction is also operating ongoing recruitment for project contract employees on-site. They are hiring across a wide range of fields including architectural construction, civil engineering construction, safety management, quality control, architectural design, civil engineering construction, mechanical, electrical, and site management.


SK Ecoplant is recruiting experienced contract employees in quality management and civil engineering construction. Quality managers require more than three years of experience and at least an associate degree, with the application deadline on the 13th of next month. Civil engineering construction positions require more than four years of experience and a bachelor’s degree or higher, with the deadline on the 28th of next month.


◆ Overseas and Specialized Experienced Recruitment = Overseas experienced recruitment is also open. Hyundai Engineering is hiring experienced professionals in plant piping construction management within the Plant Business Division. This is a contract position based in Indonesia, with applications accepted until the 2nd of next month.


Hyundai Construction is conducting recruitment for a new energy transmission site project in Saudi Arabia. This contract position is responsible for transmission site construction, with the application deadline on the 26th of next month. There is also recruitment for nuclear power plant design work in Bulgaria. This is a full-time position responsible for nuclear process management and construction execution, with the deadline on the 15th of next month. Hyundai Construction is also recruiting experienced professionals in the finance department at its Seoul headquarters. This is a full-time position with a deadline on the 31st of this month.


◆ Securing Future Business Talent… Simultaneous Recruitment of New Graduates and Experienced Professionals = GS Construction is recruiting specialized personnel in urban air mobility (UAM) operation and control. This recruitment targets experienced professionals for UAM business promotion and solution development, with applications accepted until the 9th of next month. Eligibility requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in an aviation-related field and more than five years of job experience. Proficiency in English is preferred.


Seohui Group is conducting recruitment for both new graduates and experienced professionals. Requirements vary by division, so detailed announcements should be reviewed carefully. A Seohui Construction official stated, "Although the construction industry is facing difficulties, we are growing through stable order acquisition and cost management," adding, "We will continue to hire outstanding talent."


Due to economic downturn and investment contraction, the domestic employment market is deteriorating. According to the 2024 December Business Labor Force Survey recently released by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, as of the end of December last year, the number of employees in businesses with one or more employees was 20,017,000. This represents an increase of only 84,000 (0.4%) compared to the same month the previous year. The increase has remained below 100,000 for three consecutive months.


The number of workers in the construction industry decreased by 78,000 (-5.3%), showing a more pronounced employment decline compared to other industries. According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, domestic construction investment shrank by 2.7% last year.
