Kim Dong-yeon Orders Activation of Province-City-County Emergency Support System in Preparation for Heavy Snowfall

On the 27th, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon visited the 'Gyeonggi Province Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters' amid a heavy snow weather advisory issued across the entire Gyeonggi Province and instructed the activation of an emergency support system between the province and city/county governments.

Governor Kim received reports on damage and response situations in preparation for the heavy snow that began early that morning and said, "Although it is the holiday period, please do your best to prevent damage to the safety and property of residents in advance." He ordered four key measures: thorough road snow removal, preparation for the collapse of vulnerable structures, safety of vulnerable groups, and activation of the emergency support system.

Governor Kim urged, "For the safety of those returning home or traveling to their hometowns, please do your best in road snow removal to prevent road icing or black ice." He added, "Make good use of the experience from the previous heavy snow damage response to prepare for the collapse of vulnerable structures such as vinyl greenhouses, and during the holiday period, take care of the safety of vulnerable groups, including the elderly living alone and homeless people."

He further stated, "Lastly, please monitor the snow removal status, equipment, and manpower in each city and county in real-time, and if there are any shortages, enable mutual support by activating the emergency support system at the provincial level."

Earlier, in anticipation of heavy snowfall forecasted across the province on the 27th during the Lunar New Year holiday, Gyeonggi Province activated Emergency Level 1 at the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters starting from 6 a.m. that day.

As of 9 a.m. on the same day, Gyeonggi Province deployed 1,760 snow removal vehicles and 2,507 personnel, spreading 6,105 tons of deicing agents. Given the expected sharp drop in temperature from the 28th to the 30th after the snowfall, the province opened 'cold wave shelters' and implemented protective measures such as welfare checks for 31,000 vulnerable elderly people in priority care groups, as well as operating two free meal centers for the homeless.
