Gyeonggi Province conducted a joint public-private inspection targeting 15 multi-use buildings such as department stores and large discount stores ahead of the Lunar New Year, resulting in 115 corrective actions.
From the 6th to the 20th, Gyeonggi Province, together with private experts, city and county officials, and related organizations such as the Electric and Gas Safety Corporation, jointly inspected multi-use facilities for ▲the safety management status of facilities ▲crisis situation manuals for multi-use facilities ▲risk factors such as displacement or detachment of major structural components and finishing materials of buildings ▲maintenance status of fire extinguishing equipment, fire compartments, and evacuation routes. On the 27th, they announced that 115 issues were identified at 15 locations.
At a large mart in Hwaseong City, items were displayed in front of the emergency stairs, and at a large mart in Gwangmyeong City, arcade machines were placed in front of the emergency exit of the cinema, obstructing evacuation. At a large mart in Anyang City, the gas leak detector was broken, and a gas leak shut-off device was not installed. In some marts, items were piled up in evacuation routes, emergency exits, and in front of indoor fire hydrants, making evacuation difficult. Additionally, warning signs were not installed on electric vehicle chargers, and safety signs were insufficiently installed in fall hazard areas such as rooftops.

Gyeonggi Province especially focused on ensuring safety measures such as fire doors, fire shutters, evacuation stairs, and securing evacuation routes to prevent casualties in the event of fires in multi-use facilities, like the fire at the complex shopping center in Yatap-dong, Bundang. They also plan to continuously guide and supervise similar multi-use facilities to prevent disasters such as safety accidents by spreading these measures.
Kim Young-gil, head of Gyeonggi Province’s Special Safety Inspection Team, stated, "To prevent safety accidents in various facilities such as large sales facilities with many users, we plan to conduct safety inspections to eliminate risk factors not only during Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays but also during vulnerable periods such as the thaw season." He emphasized, "We will continue to strive to protect the lives and safety of residents through field-centered safety inspections."
