Free Medical Expense Support of Up to 1 Million KRW
for Low-Income Individuals Aged 60 and Over
The Namwon City Public Health Center (Director Han Yongjae) is launching a free rental program for urinary incontinence medical devices starting January this year to improve the quality of life for patients with urinary incontinence.
According to the city on the 24th, urinary incontinence is a condition commonly occurring in the elderly, where urine leaks from the bladder involuntarily, causing hygienic and social discomfort.
This condition significantly reduces the health and quality of life of elderly individuals and is referred to as a "social cancer," as it limits social participation more than it poses a direct fatal risk.
In response, Namwon City was the only city in North Jeolla Province to be selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s 2024 public contest project and is carrying out a treatment support program for patients with urinary incontinence.
The urinary incontinence medical device rental project, which began in January this year, is open to anyone regardless of income or age, and devices can be rented free of charge for three months.
The medical devices are intended to prevent and alleviate symptoms of urinary incontinence and are approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Those wishing to rent a device can apply by visiting the Namwon City Public Health Center or local health branches with identification.
The Director of the Namwon City Public Health Center stated, "With the continuous increase in patients with urinary incontinence, we hope this program will greatly assist in treating the condition. We will continue to do our best to ensure the healthy and happy lives of local residents."
Meanwhile, for low-income individuals (basic livelihood security recipients, those just above the poverty line, and single-parent families) aged 60 and over who have been diagnosed with urinary incontinence, up to 1 million KRW in annual medical expenses for urinary incontinence is supported.
