Gwangju Seo-gu Council, Expert Meeting on Resource Circulation Activation

"Active Promotion of Projects to Overcome the Climate Crisis"

The Gwangju Seo-gu Council (Chairman Jeon Seung-il) announced on the 24th that it held an ‘Expert Roundtable on Climate Crisis Response and Resource Circulation Activation’ on the 23rd in the council’s first-floor small conference room to establish an ordinance for the installation of a special account for the circular economy.

Hosted by Jeon Seung-il, Chairman of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, the roundtable was organized to gather opinions from stakeholders ahead of the enactment of the ‘Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of a Special Account for the Circular Economy.’


The roundtable was attended by about 10 people, including Im Seong-hwa, Chair of the Council Operations Committee; Oh Mi-seop, Chair of the Special Committee on Climate Crisis Response; Choi Nak-seon, Chair of the Gwangju Resource Circulation Council; Lee Kyung-hee, Director of the Gwangju Dong-gu Eco-friendly Resource Circulation Center; Kim Jae-ju, Secretary General of the Gwangju Sustainable Development Council; Jung Eun-jung, Director of Organization and Public Relations at the Gwangju Environmental Movement Federation; Jung Seon-hee, Representative of the Nongseong 1-dong Resident Love Council; and related public officials. The meeting proceeded with explanations of the ordinance’s purpose, followed by a Q&A session and collection of opinions.


The participants stated, “The enactment of this ordinance is highly significant as it will be the first among the five autonomous districts to establish a special account necessary for the transition to a circular economy society amid the urgent need to overcome the climate crisis.” They added, “Based on this ordinance, it is expected that project funds can be secured stably from a long-term perspective and that projects aligned with its purpose can be intensively promoted.”


Chairman Jeon Seung-il said, “This ordinance was proposed to further specify the establishment and operation plan of the special account based on the Act on the Promotion of the Transition to a Circular Economy Society.” He continued, “Through the special account, we aim to actively promote projects necessary to overcome the climate crisis, such as operating resource circulation stores, encouraging the reduction of single-use products, and supporting the activation of reusable containers, thereby fulfilling our responsibility for a sustainable future.”


Meanwhile, the ordinance is expected to be processed during the 329th extraordinary session, fully reflecting the opinions gathered at the roundtable.
