Democratic Party Chungnam Provincial Committee Expels Hong Seongpyo, Chairman of Asan City Council

"Withdrawal from Party During Disciplinary Process"

The Chungnam Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea expelled Hong Seongpyo, Chairman of the Asan City Council, on the 24th.

Chairman Hong submitted a withdrawal from the party to the Chungnam Provincial Chapter on the 23rd, following controversy over attending his alma mater's graduation ceremony while intoxicated.

The Chungnam Provincial Chapter had been proceeding with disciplinary action since the 13th, but expelled Hong in accordance with party rules after he withdrew from the party during the process.

According to Article 18 of Regulation No. 7 of the Democratic Party’s Ethics Tribunal, if a member leaves the party to avoid disciplinary action after the procedure has begun but before its conclusion, expulsion is imposed.

Hong will be recorded in the withdrawal register as a person who left the party to evade disciplinary action, and will be restricted from rejoining for five years.
