President Yoon, Detained, Sends Holiday Greetings Through Prison Letter

President Yoon Seok-yeol, who was arrested on charges of being the 'ringleader of the rebellion' related to the December 3 emergency martial law, expressed in a letter from prison, "I hope the New Year of Eulsa will be a better year than last year."

On the 24th, President Yoon's legal team released the letter containing the president's New Year's greeting. In the letter, President Yoon wrote, "As the Lunar New Year approaches, I think a lot about the people," adding, "I should be by your side to watch over and help you, but I am sorry and regretful that I cannot do so." He also wished, "I sincerely hope that everyone will have a warm and happy holiday while taking care of those around you who are facing difficulties."

Earlier, the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit prohibited all contact with President Yoon, who is detained, including banning meetings except with his lawyers and preventing any exchange of letters or correspondence with the outside. In response, lawyer Yoon Gap-geun stated, "Currently, all of President Yoon's incoming and outgoing letters are restricted, so we are conveying the president's Lunar New Year greetings to the people verbally through his legal counsel."
