Shin Kyuk-ho Lotte Ma-eum Ondo 37 Degrees is a project started by the Lotte Scholarship Foundation in 2017 to help underprivileged groups have a warm winter. The name signifies adding '0.5 degrees of heart temperature' to the body temperature of 36.5 degrees, symbolizing donors and underprivileged children sharing warmth together. Through this, the foundation annually supports heating costs and heating equipment for social welfare facilities and low-income families in welfare blind spots.
This year's Shin Kyuk-ho Lotte Ma-eum Ondo 37 Degrees, in collaboration with the nonprofit organization Environment and Human Rights for Unification, targets registered welfare facilities and individual households including recipients of public assistance, single-parent families, multicultural families, families with disabilities, and grandparent-headed households. The supported items include condensing boilers, electric mats, and electric heaters.
Jang Hye-seon, Chairperson of the Lotte Scholarship Foundation, said, "This support project started with the hope that our neighbors can spend a winter warm in both body and heart," adding, "This year, we decided to increase the proportion of support for individual households so that those in difficult situations can spend the winter more warmly." She also stated, "The foundation always strives to put sincerity into material support," and "We hope that this Shin Kyuk-ho Lotte Ma-eum Ondo 37 Degrees project becomes an opportunity for both donors and beneficiaries to unite with warmth."
Meanwhile, through Shin Kyuk-ho Lotte Ma-eum Ondo 37 Degrees, the Lotte Scholarship Foundation has supported heating costs and heating equipment worth a total of 2.2 billion KRW as of 2024, benefiting a total of 2,152 child centers and facilities and 956 individual households.
